Purpose

There is an inherent desire, in all of us, to contribute, to do something useful, to create. If something is in our way of expression, we feel constrained and stuck. More often than not, we are in our own way because of our past experiences, traumas and beliefs that we formed around our talents and purpose.
While we were growing up our talents may have been ridiculed or seen as useless by our parents, teachers, friends or other people in our environment. We may have been encouraged to pursue other things that are more desirable, appropriate or cool. This led us to believe that what we have to offer to the world is useless and worthless and thus that we are, in our core, useless and worthless. Often, it seemed safer to follow and do what our environment expects us to do.
The consequences of not using our talents and not following our purpose are numerous. We can become depressed, tired, disappointed in life, drained of energy, lacking motivation to do anything, and even experience health imbalance.

What can we do about it?
We can look into our traumatic experience, become aware of our trapped emotions and become aware of our beliefs created in the traumatic experiences. While doing the therapeutic work with clients on the topic of purpose I have found following subconscious and/or conscious beliefs to be prominent (please note that, depending on our life experience, we tend to have some of the beliefs, not all of them):

  • Beliefs that our talents and who we really are, are useless and worthless
  • Belief that we are parasites and that we cannot live without leaning on others, or taking from others
  • Belief that we are able to do everything ourselves, and that we need no one
  • Belief that it is not safe to lean on others

Some of these beliefs are subconscious and may be revealed only utilizing deep introspection techniques or using kinesiology muscle tests for testing beliefs (if you would like to read more on kinesiology muscle testing, there is a number of published scientific research papers you can find online).
When it comes to emotions and feelings, we need to allow ourselves to sink in our emotions related to inability to express our talents. We may find there emotions and feelings including stuckness, inability to move or speak, hopelessness, feeling frozen, feeling trapped, worthlessness, fear of opinions of others.
In some cases, based on insight in our beliefs and releasing our suppressed emotions, we may be able to change our beliefs, emotional state and behaviours.
In other cases, if the imprint of trauma is strong, we may opt to seek a practitioner that know how to work with traumas, emotions and beliefs to support us in our transformation. The change typically feels like relief, increased levels of joy and strengthened desire and ability to pursue our purpose.
